Learning about Instructional Design has given me the tools and understanding of how best to apply multimedia principles to develop effective and engaging online course material. I have extensive teaching experience and would like to continue developing my career in the educational sector. My goal is to lead in the development and design of programs that allow individuals to have more flexibility in their life-learning experience and make it a more rewarding experience for them. My area of focus has been in marine related studies, including fisheries and the growing aquaculture sector, which I have professional experience through studies and work. Working closely with the industry, it's recognized that there is a need to better engage people through a more flexible and interactive learning approach using 21st century technology to better meet their learning needs. This need is not limited to this sector. Taking into account principles that apply to the cognitive apprenticeship approach, I have been developing a program that creates more opportunities for learners to work alongside experts in the field. The aim is to provide a community of practice that supports their learning experience, through modeling and application of skills which have evidently more relevance to real-world situations. Learning more about the effectiveness of this approach, it's clear that this type of learning environment increases learner engagement and ultimately, lead to learner success in any field. I have acquired a wide set of skills in subject areas that this field of instructional design would allow me to develop and deliver effective programs.

The following is a presentation I gave at the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) workshop in Digital Learning. This workshop was aimed at educators and administrators. Discussions followed to share ideas that create pathways to better engage students using innovative ways to improve their learning.
