Service to the University
Contributions to the Department
- I have been tasked to lead the Curriculum Committee that looks into the development of a free-standing MOT vs. OTD program as part of the department's strategic plan. In this role, I was able to utilize my knowledge of the Accreditation process and a thorough understanding of the ACOTE Standards. Below are artifacts that represent some of the work, I have developed or contributed to develop:
Contributions to the Professional Development of Alumni
- I delivered the Keynote Speech during one of the alumni conferences with the theme of translating evidence into pracice. Click here to view the slides used during the presentation: Alumni Conference - Evidence Based Decision Making Handout 1.pptx. The key note was well-received as indicated by the following commendations from peers:
- Letter commends Alumni Conference Keynote.pdf
- Letter commends Alumni Conference Keynote - R Ahern.pdf
- I have volunteered as a group facilitator on topics related to Neurorehabilitation, Hand Therapy and/or Evidence Based Practice. My involvement has also been received positively by the audience: Letter commends group facilitation at Alumni Conference.pdf
Contributions to the School of Health Science
- I facilitated faculty development activities at SHS on at least two separate occassions. Through these activities, I was able to facilitate dialogue on other avenues (e.g., methodology) to pursue in terms of scholarship.
- I was a member the committee lead by Associate Dean Bill Kohlhepp that drafted the Mission and Vision of the School of Health Sciences (click here: SHS Mission.pdf) -- a crucial first-step in redefining the role and contribution of the School not only to the University's mission but to the global community as well. [Also see Email artifact SHS Mission.pdf]
- During the AY 2013-2014, I co-chaired the newly formed SHS Faculty Development Committee. Part of our initial charges were to define our purpose and to determine the professional development needs of the faculty. Below are the artifacts of the work behind the committee:
Contributions to the University:
- Senate Research Policy Committee:[Service commends on RPC work.pdf]. This committee worked on describing current practices, perceptions and attitudes of faculty towards scholarship. Over two years, the committee conducted a QU-wide survey, studied practices in peer institutions and analyzed volumes of data to generate a report [See:Final Report RPC Survey Sp'11 copy.pdf]. This document will pave the way for future RPC work - including establishing or informing policies that would impact how faculty engage in scholarship.
- Excellence in Education Seminar Series: [Service commends on EESS work.pdf]. This committee is a unit of the Collaborative for Teaching and Learning whose purpose is to promote best practices of teaching and assessment in the classroom. The committee recruits and works with faculty who do exemplary work to provide presentations or workshops year round. One of my proudest contributions is facilitating a panel on self-directed learning. [Click here: EESS Presentation 10-14.pptx].
- Albert Schweitzer Institute: [Letter commends ASI work.pdf]. The Institute has been at the forefront of providing service-learning experiences to students in the global community. Students find the experience highly transformative. I am grateful to be one of the faculty mentors to the OT-PT delegation to Nicaragua (2009-2012) and Guatemala (2010-present). [Also see letter from student: Letter from Student about Nicaragua.pdf]
- Senator, SHS Representative to the Faculty Senate. In AY 2013-2014, I was elected as one of the SHS Senators. This term is for 2 years. [Comment from Cindy Lord re Senate work.pdf]. As part of this senate duties, I was the Senate liaison for the Information Technology Committee [Senate Information Technology Committee.docx].
